Caring for Your Natural Hair Wig

A long, sleek natural-hair wig on a display head

A natural hair wig is an investment, and with a little care it will stay beautiful for years. The good news: looking after it is simpler than you might think. Here are our salon's essentials.

Wash gently, and not too often

Unlike your own hair, a wig does not need frequent washing — every couple of weeks of regular wear is usually plenty. Use lukewarm water and a mild, sulphate-free shampoo, work it through gently without rubbing, and rinse thoroughly.

Condition and dry with care

A light conditioner keeps the hair soft and manageable; avoid the roots to protect the cap. Pat out excess water with a towel — never wring — and let the wig air-dry on a stand so it keeps its shape.

Style like your own hair — in moderation

One of the joys of natural hair is that you can style it. Use heat tools on a low setting and always with a heat protectant, and brush from the ends upwards with a soft wig brush to avoid pulling.

Store it well

Between wears, keep your wig on a stand or in its box, away from direct sunlight and heat. It keeps the style fresh and the hair tangle-free.

Leave the big jobs to us
